Great news for all "Fling" runners comes with our inclusion in the 2009 (and hopefully longer) Vasque Ultra Running Championship Series. Whilst there are 12 races in the Series, only the "Fling" takes place in Scotland, being one of the four long races scheduled. To be accepted as an entrant for the Vasque Series, runners must complete 4 of the 12 races, with a minimum of one in each (short, medium, long) category. Anyone who completes the "Fling" has therefore done the hardest part. Full details can be found on www.runfurther.com/vasque-series. Our thanks to Mark Hartell and Simon Berry for their organisation of the Series, their interest in the "Fling", and the prizes and logistical support they'll bring to Scotland on 25th April.

Great new`s i have hoped the Fling would become a part of the Vasque series as i feel they will be good for each other.
On that basis definitly think my figure of 307 entrants for the fling is realistic.
I can`t wait to see what the other 11 races will be as i plan on doing all 12 next year.

No worries, John, the Manx Mountain Marathon is Race 2 of the Series, between the Wuthering Hyke and the Calderdale. The "Fling" is number 4. Cheers Murdo

Hi John, I think Murdo may have been looking at last year's (i.e. 2008) list of events. The 2009 list still isn't officially released. (Should be some time later today according to the site. www.runfurther.com/)Looking at Richie's list, I can't see anything that looks like the MMM. Looks like you'll just have to run it for fun next year. ;D

Sorry guys, Duff gen from me. I was given a list on Friday which has clearly changed in the meantime. No Manx MM, but lots of other "fun" to be had! Perhaps you could try Wales instead - at least no boat required.

Yep look`s like two trips to Wales i may just have a pop at all the runs for the series, that will make the Dark and White peak the week after the Lakeland 100 a tad more challenging, ;D. I think the Fellsman also screws up my aim to run the Kintyre relay (solo)next year as i believe they are on the same weekend, can somebody confirm please, and the Calderdale will make a Cracking warm up the week before the FLING, luckily the Fellsman is the weekend before i head to Durness for the week of the Cape Wrath Challenges so i can see a plan forming, should be a good year as long as the body holds together

;D Great stuff about the inclusion of the Fling in the 2009 Vasque Ultra Champs. It'll be my long race in the series.
Cheers Murdo et al for organising this!

Happy training Would love to but haven't run for 4 weeks now after a bad cold last month, a dicky back & sciatica. I fear this isn't going to be a year for PBs. Hope the rest of you are in better shape. Tim
