Hi all will be running the first leg on sat as part of a relay, I was drafted in on short notice and am getting very nervous now....don't know what to expect and I have a slight hamstring strain as well which is adding worry!! I am not sure what to pack for when i get to Drymen? i am terrified of getting lost, I am a road race runner and was wondering if there will be enough marshalls along the way to keep me right? I am looking forward to it but it's the fear of the unknown, playing mind games with myself.....basically was just looking for tips/advice and reassurances from those more experienced than myself. Thanks all

Thanks all Well, getting lost *isn't* impossible although the most likely place to make a mistake is in the first 1/4 of a mile where the path seems to split in several ways. The easy answer is to not shoot off ahead of everyone at that point. ;-) The next point of confusion is when you leave Mugdock park where you need to turn left on to the road and then quickly right. There's a wee left turn not long before the distillery that you need to watch out for (if you reach the main A81 you've gone too far). Lastly, there's a right turn off the road across a small footbridge just before the end of the first leg to Drymen. It's just after the road makes a left turn. Check out the first three maps from this page. www.zen31010.zen.co.uk/highlandflingrace/images/whwmap/highlandflingmap.htmlThey should keep you right. Above all, don't worry about it too much. If your hamstring is playing up just slow down a bit and enjoy the scenery. It's not a technical section and will suit a road runner much more than the later sections. Just don't slow down *too* much though as your team mates will be itching to go. ;-)
